Projects and/or Research Interests

My stratigraphic research intends to further resolve the geologic histories of Alaska's energy-resource-bearing sedimentary basins by examining the strata that fill them. Sequence stratigraphy and zircon geochronology, as well as geologic mapping, are essential to this work. I also collaborate with academic, government agency, and industry geoscientists to broaden the expertise and perspectives that the DGGS Energy Resources section applies to its projects. My current focus is on chronostratigraphic applications of highly precise and accurate U-Pb dates obtained from detrital and tephra zircon; these efforts are improving our understanding of the strengths and challenges of maximum depositional ages and bringing Bayesian age-depth modeling to bear on our basin analysis studies. My current projects range from Cook Inlet of southern Alaska to the North Slope of northern Alaska.
